
The Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi has described Alumni Associations as dependable medium through which Universities can be developed especially in the face of dwindling resource allocation to them by Government in sub saharan, Nigeria inclusive.

Professor Njodi stated this as Chairman of the occasion at the 5th Gombe State University Alumni Public Lecture Series and 2021 National delegate conference with the theme Keeping the Academic Spirit high: Alumni Intervention for University development.

SSG said the theme of the public lecture is timely given the challenges confronting Nigeria Universities which ranges from poor funding increase demand for University education as well as disruptions in academic calendar due to Industrial action.

He described the Gombe State University Alumni Association as one of the vibrant in the country which has consistently intervene towards the growth and development of the institution in keeping with global mandate of Alumni Associations.
He called on graduates of Gombe State University to pick interest in activities of the Alumni for the purpose of solving a problem so that those coming behind will not have to experience it.
Professor Njodi told the gathering that present administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is data driven through research and documentation for effective and efficient implementation of policies and programmes in the State.
While describing graduates of the Gombe State University as worthy Ambassadors in character and learning, Professor Njodi reveals that most of the data officers are alumnus of the institution.
The SSG said the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is an academic friendly Government given the array of academics in his cabinet and therefore call on the university community to support the present administration in the State.
The National President Gombe State University Alumni Association Usman Isa Yau said since the establishment of the Institution, the Alumni has keyed into the development plan of the University, bearing in mind that advancement and expansion of the Institution does not only lies in the hand of the Government.
He said the alumni has so organized fivepublic lectures series where National and International scholars have been invited to speak on topical issues affecting the University system, Nigeria and the world at large.
In a lecture titled Keeping the Academic Spirit High: Alumni Intervention for University Development, the Vice Chancellor Nigerian Army University Biu Professor Kyari Mohammed said institution needs to plan in order to effectively achieve their academic set goals and objectives like paucity of funds which is the bane of most Nigerian Institutions of higher learning.
He said for an Alumnus to pick interest of his Almata, the conditions and experience on Campus has to be conducive and satisfying because there is a strong correlation between the treatment a student get while in school and emotional attachment he develops towards his institution after graduation.
Professor Kyari Mohammed therefore called on University authorities to make campus experience a delight to all students who so that they can easily key into the vision and mission of their almata.
“Make the University environment condusive and dispense Justice to all aggrieved students because graduates of any institution are not only ambassadors and canvassers of the institution to which they graduated from”.
There were goodwill messages from the Vice Chancellor Gombe State University Professor Aliyu Elnafaty, the Pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Abdullahi Mahdi Dr. Jocthan Toro and Professor Mohammed Gurama among others.
Highlight of the occasion was the commissioning of a shopping complex built by the Gombe State University Alumni Association by the representative of the SSG.
