We’ll Partner FG, Others to Unlock Value Chain Opportunities in Livestock Sector to Create Jobs”, Governor Inuwa.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya Says his administration is working assiduously to explore various value chain opportunities in the livestock sector through the planned dedication of about 250 hectares in the proposed Gombe industrial park for agricultural industrial cluster.

Governor Yahaya who stated this while sharing his views and perspectives on reviving the grazing and forest reserves in Nigeria on the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Network Programme, ‘Tuesday Live’, added that his administration will continue to work with the federal government, private sector and international partners as well as local stakeholders to transform the livestock sector in Gombe state in order to unlock opportunities and create jobs for the teeming populace.

He said Gombe was among the first states to key into the Federal Government’s Livestock Transformation Project, which later identified the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve as the pilot site but for the Covid-19 pandemic which slowed down the process of implementation.

Governor Yahaya said Gombe state is taking maximum advantage of the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve, which is a gazetted reserve with over over 140, 000 hectares and carrying capacity of about 2 million heads of cattle and other small ruminants.

He said already 2 access roads, a veterinary clinic, boreholes, human clinic and an earth dam are being constructed at the grazing reserve, expressing confidence that with the gradual picking up of activities and easing of things, the federal government will put more resources to ensure full take-off of the pilot project, which he noted will help in tackling the perennial farmers-herders conflicts and creating jobs opportunities.

The Governor who featured alongside renowned Professor of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Garba Sharubutu, Dr. Gambo and other panelists, also gave an overview of the grazing situation in Nigeria, including issues of climate change, population explosion, encroachment of cattle routes among others.
