Politics, defined as activities associated with governance, is very crucial to the upliftment of living standards of people. And governance as the action or manner of governing a state is dependant on the type of leaders at the helm of affairs. Having said that any dispassionate observer of the activities of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration since its inception on 29th May, 2019 can not fail to see the monumental strides made in addressing infrastructural deficits. That he fits the bill can not be overstated.
The transition committee set up by Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration which produced a report of the activities of their predecessor gave the government an eye view on how to forge ahead. Various committees were later inaugurated to further give an impetus on the way forward. Armed with these reports the government swung in to action to actualise the goals it sets out to achieve. With a well-thought-out and implementable programs aimed at addressing issues of governance, an enabling environment for businesses to thrive became the mantra of the new administration since, as is oft-repeated by His Excellency majority of people are not on government’s payroll and thus fairness demands that attention be focused more on creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive. In this the pedigree of Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as an Accountant, Civil Servant, Businessman-cum-entrepreneur and Finance Commissioner come in handy and prepared him well for the challenges which lay ahead. There is no doubt that Gombe State government under Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has delivered on its mandate in key areas such as Education, Agriculture, Health care delivery, Roads, Water Supply and Industrialization. The giant strides made in the areas mentioned clearly change the narrative. This is clearly seen by the comments by people on the progress made so far. There is no gainsaying the fact that the position of Gombe as the centre of North East and the hub of business activities is further enhanced by these laudable activities.
Worth mentioning is the on going multi billion Naira industrial hub at Dadin Kowa and the completion of projects left by the previous administration. Also the on going 11-100 (construction of 100km roads in each of the 11 local governments) shows an abiding desire by the administration to open up both urban and rural areas to development.
It is therefore safe to conclude this write-up by stating that Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has etched his name in the sands of time by being focused, resolute and committed to the development of Gombe State inspite of lean resources. His accounting and business background and the mantra of “ko gezau” (no shaking) further embolden him to forge ahead towards realizing the objectives he sets out to achieve. Gombe is now a reference point in the ‘ease of doing business’ and will in the near future become a Mecca of sorts as investment destination.
