Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the appointment of Chairman and members of the Governing Council of the Gombe state University ( GSU).
This is in exercise of the powers conferred on the Governor by the Gombe State University Law, 2004 and in his capacity as the visitor to the university.
The Secretary to the state Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who conveyed the Governor’s approval announced Senator Joshua Lidani as Chairman with Professor Fatima Sawa, Dr. Ibrahim Jalo Daudu, Professor Umaru Gurama, Professor Hassan Bello and Architect Suleiman Mohammed Kumo as members.

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has advocated for more collaborative approach and synergy with all segments of the population in combating the current security challenges rocking the country.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya made the call when he granted audience to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar who paid him a courtesy was at the government house, Gombe.
He noted that the nation is overwhelmed by cases of kidnappings, banditry, cattle rustling and crisis of different proportions, saying if Nigeria is not proactive in addressing such issues especially in the face of a growing youthful population, the country may not be able to handle the repercussions.
He however appreciated the efforts of the Nigerian armed forces in tackling criminal activities in the Northeast and the country in general.
“So far we feel we are well represented and infact well secured under your leadership as COAS”.
He said the setting up of the combat reconnaissance group in Gombe State will help in strengthening peace and security and safety of lives and property of the citizenry, while commending the pace of work at the airforce base site.
“What we are seeing on ground is quiet contrary to what we use to see before, whereby whenever a project is proposed in a place it takes years to take off, but for us here the very day the Nigerian Airforce came requesting for land we obliged and provided the land and what happened the following week they took immediate possession of the land and started developing the site, this is quite commendable “.
The Governor also lauded the Nigerian Airforce for embarking on community relations and corporate social responsibility through its medical outreach, which he noted, justifies the symbiotic relationship existing between the host community and the NAF.
He assured the Chief of Air Staff that the State will continue to encourage and motivate the people to support the activities of Nigerian Airforce in the State.
“We are all aware of the current security situation in the Northeast and the entire country, so your coming here will help to fortify our state as well as our people, their lives and means of livelihood so that they can produce more and Nigerian economy will grow and eventually the security of lives and property will be guaranteed”.
He said the geographical position of Gombe State in the Northest places it at a strategic position for smooth operation by men of the reconnaissance group, assuring of government’s readiness to partner with the Nigerian Airforce so that the mission of NAF in the State can be achieved and sustained, adding that “the success of the Airforce is equally the success of our State and the nation”.
He also gave assurance of his administration’s unflinching support as well as the cooperation and understanding of the people of the State towards the full operation and continuous stay of the group in Gombe.
Speaking earlier, the Chief of Air Staf, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar said he was in Gombe on a working visit to the 203 combat reconnaissance group and to equally express the NAF’s gratitude to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for not only approving a vast land, but also paying compensation to individuals whose lands were affected by the creation of the Airforce base.
He described the combat reconnaissance group as a strategic unit not only in the fight against insurgency but also against banditry and other criminal activities in the Northeast, Northwest and the country in general.
Air Marshal Abubakar said NAF is also deploying a special unit to serve as a protective shield to its assets in Gombe, disclosing that as part of the effort to activate the base in Gombe, the Nigerian Air Force has sent more than 71 of its personnel on special training are currently in China and will be deployed immediately they return.
The Governor later accompanied his guest to the construction site of the 203 combat reconnaissance group to assess progress of work.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, earlier today played host to the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and the Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni who were in Gombe on a condolence visit over the death of Senator Sa’idu Umar Kumo (Garkuwan Gombe).
Governor Yahaya received the delegation at the Gombe International Airport from where they proceeded to the residence of the late federal lawmaker.
While conveying his condolence to the bereaved family, Senator Ahmad Lawan described the late Garkuwan Gombe as a close political ally and a dogged parliamentarian who was well known for pursuing and defending the interest of the people and the nation during his days as a senator in the red chamber between 1999-2003 and in all his political sojourn.
” Senator Kumo was a colleague in the National Assembly and a close associate when I was in the House of Representatives and the roles he played in nation building as well as unity and development of the country will hardly be forgotten, that is why as you can see the entire nation is mourning his exit”.
He consoled his immediate family and associates over the huge loss and prayed Almighty Allah to grant his soul eternal rest in Aljannat Firdaus.
The delegation was also at the Gombe Emir’s palace to condole with the Emir of Gombe, Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar and the emirate over the demise of the Garkuwan Gombe, Durbin Gombe and Jarman Gombe who died recently.
“This respected emirate and indeed Gombe State lost some eminent sons recently, that is why in the spirit of brotherliness we are here to condole you and identify with you over the huge losses and also to seek for special prayers from our royal father for the nation considering the current challenges the country is facing”.
On the Senate president’s entourage were Senator Yusuf Abubakar Yusuf from Taraba state, Sen. Bulus Amos from Gombe state among others.

Earlier today, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state played host to his Bauchi State counterpart, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led a delegation on a condolence visit to Gombe over the demise of Sen. Sa’idu Umar Kumo and recent losses of Governor Yahaya’s relations, Alhaji Shehu and Alhaji Ahmadu as well as other prominent Gombe state indigenes, including Alhaji Usman Faruk ( Jarman Gombe) and Alhaji Lamido Abubakar ( Durbin Gombe).
The Bauchi State Governor was received by Govenor Yahaya at the Government House before being accompanied by his host to the residence of the late Senator Saidu Kumo, Governor Yahaya’s family House in Jekadafari and the Palace of the Emir of Gombe where the visiting Governor conveyed the condolences of the government and people of Bauchi State.
Governor Yahaya and his Bauchi state counterpart had during the visit to the family of the late Garkuwan Gombe took turns to pay tribute to the former federal lawmaker whom they described as a distinguished personality, reputable politician and selfless leader who contributed tremendously to the development of both Bauchi and Gombe states.
Both leader described the death of Senator Saidu Umar Kumo as a monumental national loss and consoled the grief stricken family to take solace in the fact that the late prominent politician left behind good memories and legacies of honour and dignity.
At all the places visited, special prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the departed and for Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljannat Firdaus.

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has received with sadness the news of the demise of Chairman of Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA) Abuja branch, Reverend Dr.John Lazarus Tal who died yesterday in Abuja after a brief illness.
In a condolence message, Governor Yahaya described the retired Assistant Director of Nigeria Postal Service ( NIPOST) and outgoing Pastor in charge of ECWA Good News English Service, Marraraba Abuja as a forthright evangelist and great man of faith who devoted greater part of his life preaching the gospel and serving his community and the nation.
“It was with a heavy heart that we received the sad news of the death of Rev. Dr. John Lazarus Tal, a respected religious and community leader, administrator and academic of note”.
The Governor, on behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family, especially his wife, Mrs Rose Tal, his brother, Mr. Kelmi J. Lazarus and the entire Tangale Community over the great loss, praying Almighty God to comfort those he left behind and grant the deceased eternal rest.

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed grief over the demise of Sen. Sa’idu Umar Kumo (Garkuwan Gombe) who died in the early hours of today in Abuja at the age of 71 years.
Governor Yahaya, in a message of condolence, described the late former federal lawmaker as a distinguished gentleman, astute politician, respected statesman and patriot who contributed immensely to the development of Gombe state and the nation in general.
” Gombe state has indeed lost an illustrious son, political icon, fine parliamentarian, grassroots mobilizer and respected leader who lived a life of service to the state, Nigeria and humanity”.
Governor Yahaya, on behalf of the government and people of Gombe state, joined the immediate family of the deceased as well as the entire members of the Muqaddam family in mourning the distinguished political figure who lived an exemplary life and made his marks in the political history of Gombe state and the country in general. He consoled them to take solace in the fact that the late Garkuwa left behind impressive track records of hard work, dedication and selfless service.
The Governor prayed Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus.

…Urges Prayers for Peace, Security, end to Covid-19 Pandemic
The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has felicitated with the Christian community in the state as they join other faithful all over the world to mark this year’s Christmas, urging them to use the period to pray for peace, security and prosperity of the state as well as an end to the global pandemic of COVID-19.
The Governor in a goodwill message, charged Christians and the entire people of the state to rededicate themselves and remain steadfast in prayers against all the challenges bedevilling the state and humanity in general.
Governor Yahaya assured of his administration’s commitment to continue to initiate and execute policies and programmes that will impact on the lives of the citizenry and promote unity and peaceful coexistence in the state.
He said: “On this significant occasion of Christmas, I extend my best wishes to the Christian community and all citizens of the country.
“This period reminds us of God’s love for humanity and the need to uphold the virtues of compassion, tolerance and love as exemplified by Jesus Christ. I also call on all of us to reflect on the lessons of the season, which presents an opportunity to love and share”.
Th Gombe state Governor said, “although this year’s celebration is coming at a period the world is still grappling with the novel coronavirus and its devastating impact on lives and means of livelihood of the people, such should not deter us from imbibing the good lessons of the season”.
” I urge us all to continue to pray fervently for an end to the pandemic. And as we pray and celebrate, we must also continue to keep safe and adhere strictly to the laid down COVID-19 protocols and guidelines, especially in view of the resurgence of the pandemic”.

The Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi has assured sports lovers in Shongom Local Goverment Area of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration’s support to botter their dreams of becoming Sports men and women.
Professor Njodi who gave the assurance Wednesday at the final of Shongom Unity Football Competition held at Boh Primary School play ground also assured of making a case for the construction of a mini Stadium in the area to attract more interested youths into sports.
Professor Njodi who was the Special Guest of honor at the event commended the organizers for their efforts in enhancing Unity through Sports.
The SSG further challenged the Youths to ensure combining sports with educational pursuit as being practice globally warning against engaging in substance abuse.
While commending the participating Football teams in the competition for the spirit of sportsmanship, Professor Njodi assured them of maximum support in future, advising them to make it an annual to involve youths across Gombe South.
In their remarks the Director National Center for remote Sensing Jos, Dr. Efron Gajere, member representing Kaltungo West in the State House of Assembly Bashir Barau Yakubu,the representative of the state Sports Commission and the District Head of Shongom Dahiru Alfayo all lauded the genuine commitment of the convener and organising Committee as well as the participants for the peaceful conduct of the competition.
The convener of the competition Mr Jonathan Simon said he was motivated by the yearning desire to bring youths together to foster Unity in Gombe State starting with from Shongom LGA through the instrument of sports.
Mr.Jonathan Simon therefore appealed to the State Government and well meaning individuals to support and encourage the initiative.
Professor Njodi, Dr Efron Gajere, Dr, Sam Alfayo were all presented with awards in recognition of tremendous support to the course of young people.
The football competition which had 24 teams participating saw Kulishin United defeating Alfayo United by 5/3 through a penalties after a one one draw at regulation time.
