Gombe Governor to swear-in newly elected LG Chairmen tomorrow.

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will swear-in the newly elected Local Government Councils Chairmen tomorrow Monday, 21st December, 2020.

According to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Banquet Hall of the Government House Gombe by 9 O’clock in the morning.

All the Chairmen-elect and invited guests are to be seated by 8:30 am and are to observe Covid-19 protocols.

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has congratulated the newly elected chairmen of the 11 local government councils, their deputies and the 114 councillors, with a call on them to see their election as a call to service at a very critical time.

The Governor, in a statement following the official announcement of the December 19th local government councils election results by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, GOSIEC, equally congratulated the governing All Progressives Congress, APC on the party’s victory at the poll.

He expressed satisfaction with the hitch-free nature of the poll as well as the peaceful conduct of voters during and after the exercise.

” I am particularly impressed with the orderly manner with which voters, observers and GOSIEC officials as well as the people of the state conducted themselves throughout the process “.

” While I felicitate with you, I want to urge you all to see the mandates freely given to you by the electorate as a call to serve, and do your best to justify the confidence reposed in you”.

Governor Yahaya who described the local government as a critical tier, urged the newly elected LGA helmsmem to live above board and provide viable leadership that will impact positively on the lives of people at the grassroots in line with the vision and ideals of the APC and the present administration in the State.

” You must also remain focused, accountable and work in the interest of the people”,

It will be recalled that the Gombe State Electoral Commission has declared APC as winner of all the 11 Chairmanship and 114 Councillorship seats in accordance with the law.

Gombe LG Poll: APC Wins all 11 Chairmanship, 114 Councillorship Seats.

The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, GOSIEC has declared the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of all the 11 Local Government Councils seats in the just concluded election.

The GOSIEC Chairman, Saidu Shehu Awak who made the declaration after Collation of results as submitted by the 11 local government electoral officers, also announced the APC as winner of all the 114 Councillorship positions.

The Chairman, in accordance with section 26, sub sections 1 and 2 of the Gombe state Independent Electoral Commission Law 2013 as amended, and as the chief returning officer of the Commission, declared the following candidates of the APC who scored the highest number of votes as winners.

  1. Akko LGA: Abubakar Usman- Barambu Chairman with Mahmud Saleh Tabra as Deputy Chairman
  2. Balanga LGA: Garba Umar as Chairman with Salamu Ezikiel as Deputy Chairman
  3. Billiri LGA: Margaret Bitrus as Chairman with Rev. Panuel Nicodemus Lashobok as Deputy Chairman
  4. Dukku LGA: Jamilu Ahmed Shabewa as Chairman with Umar Manu Malala as Vice Chairman
  5. Furnakaye LGA: Ibrahim Adamu Cheldu as Chairman with Mu’azu A. Yahaya Tongo as Deputy Chairman
  6. Gombe LGA:
    Aliyu Usman Haruna as Chairman with Gambo Sulaiman Garko as Deputy Chairman
  7. Kaltungo LGA: Faruk Aliyu Umar as Chairman with Solomon Lande as Deputy
  8. Kwami LGA: Ibrahim Buba as Chairman with Muhammadu Musa Kolo as Deputy

The GOSIEC Chairman said three political parties which participated in the elections included the APC, PDP and PRP.

The announcement and declaration was made in the presence of leaders of the Inter Party Advisory Council ( IPAC), members of the Civil Society, the Media, the Nigeria Police and other security outfits as well as representatives of candidates.

LG Poll: Gombe Deputy Governor casts vote.

…Describes process as peaceful

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau has cast his vote in the ongoing Local Government Councils Election at his Polling Unit, Gurma, Degri- Kulani- Sikkam Ward, Balanga Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor who voted amidst observance of Covid19 protocol said, the local government election was in line with the tenets of democracy which allows for representative governance at the grassroot.

Dr. Jatau pleaded for calm and peace throughout the election, saying “there is no need to breach the peace, especially considering that we are all brothers and sisters and Gombe is the altimate winner at the end if the day”.

Responding to a question on the reason for the massive turnout, the Deputy Governor explained that , it was an indication that they were adequately mobilized and well educated in the electoral process, and also an indication of confidence they have in the process.

He commended the officials of Gombe state Independent Electoral Commission for being prompt in the distribution of election materials.

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has cast his vote in the ongoing Local Government Elections at the Yahaya Umaru 010 polling unit in Jekadafari ward of Gombe Local Government Area of the State.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after performing his civic duty, Governor Inuwa Yahaya commended the turnout of voters and the peaceful conduct of the election across the State.

“Well so far I can say so very good. The report we are receiving are indicative of the real situation on the ground that people are conducting themselves peacefully, harmoniously and elections are going on very well and we thank God for that and appreciate the efforts of the people. My only observation is the covid-19 protocols so in that regard, I will like to appeal to the people to abide by the Coronavirus protocols so that we don’t encourage the spike that has come up now”.

The Governor called on the people of the state to remain calm and resolute while awaiting the outcome of the election, saying the will of the people will be respected.

Gombe Covid-19 Management Committee Cautions Citizens on Safety Protocols.

…Says Number of Confirmed Cases, Fatality on rise in the State

The Chairman of the the Gombe State Covid-19 Management Committee and Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau has advised the people of the State not to throw caution to the wind but re-embrace and adhere to the Coronavirus safety protocols.

Dr. Jatau stated this while addressing newsmen at the wake of the second wave of the covid-19 Pandemic maintaining that figures have shown that there is a geometrical spike in the number of confirmed cases and fatalities in the State.

He said “there is no gain saying the fact that the present administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has done incredibly well in mitigating the spread of the virus but that the seemingly containment of the virus led to a general relaxation among Nigerians leading to a much bigger second wave”.

He noted that the recent Endsars protest across the country also contributed to the spread of the covid-19 virus.

He called on the people of the State to take responsibility by adhering to the covid-19 safety protocols which include wearing of face mask, washing of hands and maintaining social distancing.

“We call you members of the press here to brief you on the activities of the committee and to seek for your cooperation to reach out to the public on the need for everyone to adhere to the covid-19 safety protocols especially in this festive season where marriages and social gatherings are in large volume”.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Gana said the virus thrives in temperate conditions, describing the current weather condition as ideal for the spread of the covid-19 virus.

“Needless to mention Gombe is experiencing a spike in covid-19 Pandemic and fatality is hitting double digit”.

Dr. Gana therefore appealed to members of the public to take personal responsibility by keeping with the covid-19 safety protocols and to desist from dismissing the existence of the virus.

Gombe Governor Mourns Usman Faruk, 1st Military Governor of Defunct North-Western State.

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed grief over the demise of elder statesman and former Military Governor of the defunct North-Western State, Alhaji Usman Faruk, Jarman Gombe who died in the early hours of today after a protracted illness.

The Governor led a government delegation in attendance at the funeral prayer for the deceased, which held at the Modibbo Bubayero Central Mosque, Emir’s Palace, Gombe.

In a message of condolence, the Governor described the late former Commissioner of police as a complete gentleman, distinguished officer and accomplished personality who sacrificed a lot for the unity, progress and development of the nation and left behind good memories that will continue to linger on for a long time to come.

“Gombe State has indeed lost a great pillar and respected elder. He was an astute officer, well respected for his humility, exemplary leadership and commitment to the unity and development of Gombe State and Nigeria in general”.

” We will continue to remember him for his fatherly disposition and excellent deeds both in service and retirement, and in particular for his service to the community, the state and nation in a variety of roles”.

“On behalf of the government and people of Gombe State, we convey our sincere condolences to his immediate family and associates over this great loss. May Allah reward his good deeds with Aljannat Firdaus”.

The Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has made giant efforts in addressing environmental challenges as part of his administration”s pragmatic leadership.

Speaking in Gombe at a 2-day capacity building workshop for school teachers and heads of the benefiting communities on environmental education,
the Governor noted ” as part of efforts to ensure smooth implementation and sustainability of the ongoing Gombe State University – Malam Inna Gully Erosion project under the State ministry of Environment and Forest Resources through the world bank project NEWMAP, the Focal NGO for NEWMAP in Gombe, Jewel Environmental Initiative”.

He said, ” this is in an effort to canvass their support for all segments of the project implementation especially on tree planting, waste management, pollution control, and climate change”
Also, the State Commissioner of Environment and Forest Resources, Dr. Hussaina Goje, lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for demonstrating commitment in addressing the environmental challenges facing the State as evident in the launching of his massive afforestation project of Gombe Goes Green (3G-project), and the payment of N500million counterpart funding to NEWMAP which climaxed into the signing of Gombe State University – Malam Inna Gully Erosion site.

She revealed that the remaining Gully Erosion sites approved by World Bank under NEWMAP would all be realised.

The Commissioner further assured the participants from the benefiting communities that government will pay compensation to all the affected communities before the civil work commences.

The Project Coordinators of NEWMAP/Gombe and the NEWMAP Focal NGO in their seperate addresses appreciated Governor Inuwa Yahaya and the Commissioner for Environment for their relentless commitment and tireless support in ensuring the success of the project.
