As Awak community pays solidarity visit.

The Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi says current administration of Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya is not unmindful of the developmental challenges facing communities across the State and will therefore do everything necessary to address them.

Professor Njodi stated this when he granted audience to the Awak Community Development Association who where in his office on a courtesy visit.

The Chief scribe to the Gombe State Government thanked the Association for applauding the developmental efforts of the present administration in the State saying as a close confidant to Governor Inuwa Yahaya the general welfare of the people is non negotiable.

On the requests presented to the State Government by the Awak community which includes the provision of electricity, institution of learning, Court and a hospital, the SSG said he will liaise with relevant ministries and subsequently Governor Inuwa Yahaya for possible citing of the projects.

Speaking earlier the President Awak Community Development Association Alh. Abdulhamid Mohammed said they were in the SSG’s to identify with the laudable programmes of Governor Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya.

One such programmes the President of the Awak Community said was the redesigning and reinforcement of the Billiri Awak/Dogon ruwa road.

Alh. Abdulhamid Mohammed also thanked Governor Inuwa Yahaya for appointing sons and a daughter of the community into key positions of Government.

The president Awak Community Development Association use the visit to appeal to the state Government to come to community’s aid by providing them with electricity, hospital, a court and an institution of learning.

GOV.YAHAHA MOURN VICTIMS OF FLOOR DISASTER IN GOMBE.

A high powered Government Delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi have Visited the family of Malam Musharraf of Dawaki Quarters Gombe to sympathized with the family over the loss of his two Sons as a result of the hevy downpour recently.

The heavy downpour which lasted for several hours, unleashed heavy volume of water from drainages already narrowed by refuse dumped forcing vulnerable houses to give way and pulling down walls of the family of Mallam Musharaf Abubakar leading to the death of two out of his four children.

Secretary to the Gombe state government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, sympathize with the bereaved family and all those affected by the flood disaster assuring them of Government’s intervention to prevent future occurrence, calling for collective effort to safeguard lives and property while the raining season lasted.

Special prayers were offered for repose of souls of the deceased, who have since been laid to rest according to Islamic rights.

In the SSG’S Deligation are Commissioners for Works and Transport, Engineer Abubakar Bappa,Dasuki Jalo Waziri ( local Government & Chieftancy Affairs), Ibrahim Al-Hassan (Information), Mijinyawa Yahaya (Water Resources) and Special Advisers and Assistants.

…as SSAP describes Gombe as mirror for other states in achieving SDGs

The Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has acknowledged with delight, the support of the office of the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the state’s 10 year (2020-2030) Development Plan and other initiatives aimed at improving the human capital development in the state.

The Governor was speaking during a courtesy visit to the SSAP, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in her office in Abuja.

He expressed profound appreciation for the commitment of the SDG’s office in supporting the preparation of the development plan to make it truly a model.

He said ” I note with satisfaction your support in the design of the Monitoring and Evaluation framework and funding of the robust stakeholder consultation from the ward to the state level as well as the dissemination of our 10 year Development plan, which has a special focus on health, education, agriculture youths empowerment, water supply among others.

He acknowledged the significance of the SDGs in driving global and national development agenda, describing its 17 goals as the bedrock of human development.

He said ” We had earlier identified our priority areas across all sectors and so far what we have been able to do within the last one year are in tandem with the aspirations of the SDGs”, adding that ” we have a clear vision and we have focused our attention to the provision of quality education, effective healthcare, which made us to embark on the modernisation of our health system that cascades all through the state”.

Governor Yahaya explained that “Gombe State, being at the center of the North east is affected by the conflict in the region in playing host to IDPs and migrants running away from the epicentre of conflict. This, he said, has led to the overstretching of the public service provisions in hospitals, schools and others social infrastructure. This is a critical challenge in achieving the SDGs targets”.

He emphasized that the SDGs can only be achieved with strong and enduring collaboration between the Federal and State governments, indicating that his visit is aimed at fostering the the partnership established with the office right from the MDGs days.

Governor Yahaya said, “Gombe is particularly proud to be associated with the SDGs as a Gombe illustrious daughter, Hajiya Amina J Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations left an indelible mark in the then MDGs office and was the one that led the design of the SDGs.

In her response, Princess Orelope-Adefurile commended Governor Yahaya’s disposition towards achieving the SDGs, describing Gombe state as a model in the strive to achieve the sustainable development goals.

She said her office will continue to partner Gombe in addressing its numerous developmental challenges, even as she assured to accommodate the state on the conditional grant scheme.

” For us here, we are ready to continue to work with you and we want to congratulate you for taking over from 3 to 4 states with your development agenda. We are going to make Gombe state a model for other states and we want other states to mirror what you are doing in terms of achieving the SDGs.

Gombe restates commitment to human capital development.

The Gombe Government has restated its commitment to continue to focus on human capital development for the betterment of the citizenry.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya gave the indication on the occasion of the kick-off event of Rural Resilience Activity organised by Mercy Corps, collaboration with Gombe State Government, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and International Fertilizer Development Company ( IFDC) held at Maidugu Hotel in the metropolis.

Declaring the workshop open, Governor Yahaya said the presence of Mercy Corps and other Non Governmental Organisations in the state is a clear demonstration of the administration’s drive to encourage a partnership that could assist them in delivering its mandate.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, Alhaji Yahaya said government places emphasis on health, education, agriculture and infrastructure because they are enablers for moving the people out of poverty.

The Governor added that the collaboration with development partners is premised on the fact that they are catalysts for overall development and aspirations.

He expressed delight that the main trust of the Rural Resilience Activity(RRA )project is to move individuals and households out of chronic vulnerability by stimulating market systems that take into cognizance the unique challenges and constraints of the North East environment.

Governor Yahaya further explained that despite the huge potentials the state is endowed with, it had been contending with poor human development in virtually all the sectors over the years, which was compounded by the massive influx of people from conflict areas around the North East.

He noted with happiness, the choice of Gombe state for the commencement of the implementation of the RRA project, making Gombe the regional hub of operations, thereby reducing the effect of the increased population on the essential services and infrastructure.

In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Budget, Planning and Development Partners Coordination, Dr. Ishiyaku Mohammed, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Jalo Ali appreciated Mercy Corps for making Gombe State the regional headquarters of the international humanitarian service provider, assuring of the sustainability of the collaboration for the benefit of the people of the state.

Earlier, the Investment Fund Manager, Mercy Corps, Mr. Joseph Ubek said the organisation has several programmes to assist the vulnerable estimated at one point three million in the North East region through empowerment programmes captured in the Rural Resilience Strategy.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya symphatizes with victims of flood disaster in Gombe.

The Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has sympathized with the victims of flood disaster which wreaked havoc in some parts of the state capital and other communities in the state.

In a statement, the Governor particularly expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of those who lost their lives as a result of the flood, also sympathized with all those who lost their properties and other material resources.

It could be recalled that two people have been confirmed dead, and property worth millions of naira destroyed in some parts of Gombe metropolis due to early morning downpour that lasted for hours.

The downpour which started at about 5am today left in its wake flash flood that also swept away houses and livestock in worst hit areas like shamaki and Dawaki quarters of Gombe metropolis.

Other areas affected by the heavy downpour include Idi, BCGA, Bagadaza, Pantami and Bye pass quarters.

The Governor has since sent a delegation led by the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau to visit and inspect the affected areas, just as he ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant bodies to immediately move in and undertake an on the spot assessment of the level of devastation,
assuring of his administration’s commitment towards the wellbeing of the citizenry.

The Governor however urged the people to heed to flash flood warnings and avoid flood-prone areas as a preventive measure.

The Deputy Governor has since visited the affected areas, including Jekadafari, Gadar Bello Sabon kudi, Kasuwar Mata, Opposite GSU and BCGA, where the impact of the flood was more devastating.

The state Commissioner Of Environment, Dr. Hussaina Goje who conducted the Deputy Governor and his team round, said her Ministry is already doing everything possible to determine the extent of damage and the number of people affected.

Members of delegation include Secretaryto the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi Commissioners of Works, Information, Women Affairs and other government functionaries.

Gombe Governor visits Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

…Seeks support, collaboration to strengthen state’s social inclusion, protection programmes

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has sought for the support and collaboration of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development in his determination to strenthen the state’s social inclusion and protection programmes.

The Governor was speaking when he paid a courtesy visit on the Minister, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk in her office in Abuja.

He explained that going out of the the covid-19 pandemic, his administration is desirous to come up with measures to encourage small and medium scale businesses, especially in Agriculture to strengthen the safety net and mitigate the effects of the pandemic on the socio-economic activities of the people and other challenges bedevilling the state as a result of insurgency in the North- East.

He said “Gombe, being at the center of the North-East subregion is experiencing the influx of people fleeing insurgency in the neighbouring states, thereby overstretching the state’s resources in the process”.

The Governor however, lamented the non inclusion of Gombe among the frontline states when it comes to humanitarian support and intervention for states affected by the insurgency despite the huge burden it has to contain with as a result of conflict in the region.

Governor Yahaya who commended the ministry’s school feeding programme and its efforts to feed school children at home during the Covid-19 period through the Take Home Rations (THR), also made a case for the expansion of the school feeding programme in Gombe state to accommodate the rising enrollment figures as a result of the state of emergency he declared on education.

On the social investment programme of the ministry,
the N-Power in particular, the Governor pushed for special consideration for Gombe state in the ongoing recruitment process, lamented that the state had only about 2,000 beneficiaries in the outgoing batches.

Governor Yahaya also emphasized the need to expedite the roll out of the Government Enterprises and Empowerment Programme ( GEEP) in Gombe State in order to accelerate the economic recovery post-Covid, saying Gombe is a commercial area with large numbers of businesses and traders that need to benefit from the intervention.

He also sought for the inclusion of Gombe state in the National Emergency Management Agency’s Agricultural intervention in the North-East, even as he assured of improved partnership between Gombe state Emergency Management Agency and NEMA through capacity building in areas of disaster response and humanitarian intervention.

In her response, the Minister, told the Governor that her ministry will continue to prioritise Gombe state in its activities, assuring to include the state among the frontline states in the North-East region.

She thanked Governor Yahaya for his support to the Ministry’s social intervention programmes such as Conditional Cash Transfer, N- Power, Government Enterprises Empowerment and Home Grown School Feeding among others.

She said her Ministry, which was established in August 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari, is charged with the responsibility of providing effective coordination of humanitarian interventions, ensuring disaster mitigation, preparedness and response as well as implementing social Inclusion and protection programmes, seeking for the Governor’s continuous cooperation to the ministry in implementing its mandate within the state.

Hajiya Sadiya Farouk expressed appreciation to Gombe state Government for its support to the ongoing rehabilitation and radicalisation of repentant insurgents by the operation safe corridor at the Malam Sidi camp.

She said with the succeses recorded and the state Governor’s commitment, the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) is putting plans to set up an operational office in Gombe state and that more support is coming the way of Gombe through her Ministry.

The Minister also disclosed that NEMA will be engaging Gombe SEMA and other states emergency agencies to ensure preparedness to prevent and manage disasters, especially with the early warning signals, seasonal rainfall prediction and annual flood outlook earlier released.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya appoints Executive Chairman, Executive Directors for Gombe State Internal Revenue Service.

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the appointment of Abubakar Inuwa Tata as the Executive Chairman, Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.

The Governor has equally approved the appointment of the following as Executive Directors of the Board;

  1. Danladi Adamu Yerima
  2. Bulus Nuhu
  3. Ahmed Ali Pindiga

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who conveyed the Governor’s approval, congratulated the new appointees, charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by bringing to bear, their wealth of experience and knowledge while undertaking their new responsibilities.

The appointment of the Executive Chairman has since been confirmed by the state House of Assembly in line with the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service and Revenue Administration ( Consolidation and Codification) Law, 2020 which came into effect on May 21, 2020.

The new law has strengthened the governance structure in the service and created Executive Management Committee apart from the establishment of the Board and its membership to engender efficiency, transparency and accountability.

Covid-19: Gombe begins Radio Lessons For Senior Secondary Students Monday.

Gombe State Ministry of Education has finalized arrangements to begin lessons on radio stations for SS 1, SS 2 and SS 3 students of the State.

The State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Hadu Dahiru who announced this, said the radio lessons which will begin tomorrow, Monday 20th July, 2020 are designed to make up for academic losses for students due to the the closure of schools as a result of the coronavirus pandamic.

The statement said the lessons for both will run Mondays to Saturdays every week and are scheduled as follows:

Governor Inuwa Yahaya appoints DGs for Gombe state Joint Projects Devt Agency, Gombe Geographical Information System.

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the appointment of Engr. Idris Mohammed Mahdi as Director-General, Gombe State Joint Project Development Agency.

Similarly, the Governor has approved the appointment of Dr. Kabiru Usman Hassan as Director -General, Gombe State Geographical Information System, GOGIS.

The two appointments, which take immediate effect, are pursuant to the powers confered on the Governor by Section 208 sub section 2(d) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and the resolution of the Gombe state House of Assembly.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi who conveyed the Governor’s approval, congratulated the new appointees and charged them to justify the confidence repose in them by bringing to bear their wealth of experience and expertise in the discharge their new responsibilities.
