SPOTLIGHT ON GOVERNOR MUHAMMADU INUWA YAHAYA’S GIANT STRIDES IN KALTUNGO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA. By Joshua Danmalam.

Since the creation of Gombe State on the 1st of October 1996, the State has witness the succession of different administrations from those of the military to that of the current civilian regime.

Each of these administration gave their best in expanding the frontiers of the social economic and political dimensions of Gombe State to lift it from once been regarded as a big village to a modern cosmopolitan State.

These strides in the form of infrastructural development by previous administrations in the State particularly in Kaltungo Local Government Area fall short of the yearnings and aspirations of people who have always pitch their tent with the party in power.

But two years into the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya the policy thrust of his stewardship has so far proved to any discerning mind that the Governor is not only a true Democrat, but a trusted focused and a leader desirous to transform Gombe State into a model.

This transformational drive of the Governor has since robbed off on the people of Kaltungo Local Government who are now attesting to the fact that Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s footprints are glaring for everyone to see and feel.

From the ongoing construction of the much talked about Bambam/Tula Yiri road awarded at the cost of over 2.6 billion naira to the renovation, expansion and remodeling of 10 Primary Health Care Centres PHCCs across the 10 wards of Kaltungo Local Government Area.

Besides the renovation and remodeling of Primary Health Care Centres in Kaltungo Local Government Area, the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has recently approved over 1.2 billion naira as contract sum for the total revitalization of the 70 years old General Hospital, Kaltungo.

Famous for it treatment of snake bite, the Kaltungo General Hospital was constructed in 1951and is the second hospital to be established in the North-East Sub-Region

On education, the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya upon assumption into office embarked on the renovation and equipping of the famous Government Science Secondary School, Kaltungo (Lakanje) which has been in a deplorable condition for so many years.

In the same vein the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Tula received a similar gesture to which the broken fence of the school was completely built to secure the institution.

Primary Schools in Kaltungo Local Government Area were also not left out as the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has either constructed renovated or remodeled quiet a number of them to ride on the State of Emergency declared by his administration.

To compliment the Federal Government own Polytechnic Kaltungo, the Inuwa Yahaya’s administration wasted no time in providing a land for the institution’s permanent site, this is in addition to the provision of a temporary site, financial support, accommodation for principal officers and a utility vehicle among others.

There is no doubt that the last two years of the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has been quiet eventful to the people of the State particularly those in Kaltungo Local Government Area. For instance the ongoing construction of Bambam-Yiri road said to be the mother of all road projects in the State is indeed a milestone achievement worthy of commendation by all men and women of goodwill.

The reinforcement of the Billiri-Gujuba-Dogon Ruwa road from rough to smooth surface is another monumental achievement worthy of commendation.

While the people of Kaltungo appreciate the administration of Governor Yahaya for these developmental efforts within the last years, they are equally of the opinion that for more of such development to come the way of the local council, the need to support the Government of Inuwa Yahaya is indeed and infact necessary.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya earlier today moved round Gombe Metropolis to inspect some ongoing projects with a view to ascertaining the level of progress, quality and the due time for delivery.

While conducting the Governor round the Gombe Metropolitan Mega Park, the Commissioner of Housing, Abdullahi Idris Kwami said about 60% of road networks at the park has been achieved by Triacta Nigeria Limited.

The Housing Commissioner equally told Governor Inuwa Yahaya that AG Fererro, the second construction firm at the park has also achieved more than 65% completion status of structures at the Gombe Metropolitan Mega Park.

Abdullahi Idris Kwami thereafter took the Governor to the 40-room hotel apartment, fire service unit, retail shops, terminal building and administrative block.

Other areas inspected by the Governor and his entourage include the taxi terminal and the trailer bay which is capable of accommodating 2500 to 3000 trailers at once.

Project Manager of Triacta Nigeria Limited, Imran Amin Khan, informed the Governor that the project being executed is going on according to specifications and that the trailer park is expected to be completed within the next 45 days.

At the 3.2 kilometres Kwanar Oando-London Maidoruwa-Alkahira-Arawa road, the Commissioner of Works, Engr Abubakar Bappah told the Governor that the road which cuts across densely populated communities was part of his administration’s commitment to bringing development to the door steps of the people.

While speaking at the Mega Park, Governor Inuwa said the project which started in 2012 by the immediate past administration was abandoned, with the claim that the park had been completed and even commissioned.

The Governor explained that at the time the project was said to have been completed and commissioned, it was only about 39% completed, saying the Gombe Metropolitan Mega Park is more of a civil work, than the building which the immediate past administration hurriedly erected.

“But today we thank God we have seen where we are. It is now about 70% completed, including civil and building work, our target to the contractors is for the project to be completed by December 2021. That means we shall finish what they failed to finish in 7 years by the grace of God in 1 year”.

The Governor charged the contractors to work round the clock so that they meet the deadline for the delivery of the project as his administration cannot wait to have all motor parks in Gombe metropolis move to the Gombe Metropolitan Mega Park especially the Bauchi motor park, where government hopes to commence the construction of a befitting Secretariat for the State civil servants.

He said his administration will not fail the people and therefore called on the contractors to work according to schedule without compromising quality of the project.

While thanking the people of the State for the support and solidarity extended to him, the Governor assured that his administration will not leave any project unfinished as citizens of the State deserve all the developmental paraphernalia to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya equally disclosed that by the early part of next month, his administration will lay the foundation stone for the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, which is expected to boost socio- provide jobs for the people and boost their socio-economic activities.

2021 Farming Season: Gombe Governor Flags-off Sales of Fertilizer, Distribution of Seeds, Agro Chemicals to Farmers.

… Subsidizes Commodity, Pegs Price at N7,500 Per Bag

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has flagged-off the sales of fertilizer and distribution of high yield seeds to farmers in the State for the 2021 cropping season.

Performing the ceremony at the premises of the Gombe fertilizer blending plant, Governor Yahaya said the commodity would be sold at the rate of N7,500 per bag as against N9,600 sold in the market.

The Governor said his administration will continue to subsidise the price of the commodity while strengthening other agricultural interventions as part of efforts to boost food security in the state and improve farmers’ income.

“In order to sustain supply of fertilizers to the people at the right price, in the right quality and at the right time, we need to restore production in this plant, that is why we worked together with TakAgro and as at today, you can see what we have achieved.

We will sustain this and continue with this company to improve productivity so that states around us will also be supplied from this plant,”.

He said despite the hitches experienced in the process of procurement of Urea, a chemical component for the production of NPK, his administration was able to marshal negotiations with the Federal authorities to allow for the importation of the product.

The Governor explained that the Federal Government, through its security agencies had restricted the importation of Urea especially towards the North East due to fear that that it might get into the hands of bad elements who manipulate it to produce Improvise Explosive Device IED and unleash mayhem in the country.

“Even with the importation of Urea into the State, for our fertilizer blending plant to begin the production of the product in the state, the Federal Government had to deploy the military to guard the product from being diverted from the purpose it was meant for”.

The Governor therefore used the occasion to commend the people of the State particularly farmers for their cooperation and understanding while the struggle to get clearance for the importation of the Urea to the state lasted.

“This has never been in our administration’s policy to keep farmers beyond the month of May without distributing fertilizer to them, so the hitch that occurred was not our making but thank God we were able to resolve the issue with Federal Authorities and production of fertilizer has since commenced in earnest at the blending plant”.

The Governor noted that ever since the establishment of the plant by the administration of late Abubakar Habu Hashidu 19 years ago, other successive governments abandoned the plant until when his administration came on board that the narrative was changed by reactivating the plant and making it functional.

He described the fertilizer being produced at the Gombe blending plant by TAK Agro and Chemical Limited as exceptionally good for usage by farmers who are desirous of good yields.

“That is why it is important to have a mechanism to prevent fake and adulterated fertiliser from getting into the hands of farmers and with this development we are working to kick fake and adulterated fertiliser out of the market and help farmers develop confidence in inputs and they use on the farm”.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stressed that the fertilizer is meant for the teeming local farmers across the State, and therefore warned against any possible diversion of the product, saying anyone found culpable will face the wrath of the law.

The Governor used the occasion to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for providing good leadership at a time when the country is experiencing the worst social, economic, political and security challenges in history.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Commissioner of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Muhammad Magaji commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his unwavering commitment towards the development of the Agricultural sector by initiating and executing farmers-friendly policies and programmes.

The Commissioner explained the determination of the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to begin the production of fertilizer in the State has so far led to the blending of about 540 tones of fertilizer by TAK Agro and Chemicals Limited.

pointed out that this was to bring about sustainable agricultural development to ensure food security and wealth creation for farmers.
Magaji added that aside the intervention of the state government in the provision of fertilisers and other inputs, government was also improving the livestock sector in the state.
He said the state government had keyed into the Livestock Transformation Plan of the Federal Government which had resulted in the ongoing development of the Wawa-Zange grazing reserve.

Ina goodwill message, the Gombe State Coordinator, Federal Department of Agriculture, Dr. Musa Mohammed Inuwa said to compliment the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s giant strides in the Agric sector, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has embarked on the construction of some rural roads across the State to aid the transportation of farm produce by farmers at the rural areas.

The Managing Director, TAK Agro and Chemicals Limited, Danjuma Abdulkadir said it is only a patriotic citizen like the Governor of Gombe State that could take such a bold step of setting up the only blending company in North East sub-region.

“We are happy to be here and this blending plant will not only serve the people of the State, Gombe has now automatically become the fertilizer hub of the North East”

The Governor also inspected the Gombe Fertiliser Blending Plant which had been abandoned for nearly 19.

Governor Inuwa Inaugurates Board of Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company.

…Tasks Members To Exert Their Wealth of Experience Towards Building Virile Firm that Can Attract Investments, Boost Economy of Gombe

…Says ” Our Administration Has Already Prepared Grounds for Smooth Take Off of Any Investment”

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has challenged members of the newly inaugurated Board of the Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company to exert their individual wealth of experience towards building a virile firm that can attract investment and boost the economy of the State for the benefit of the people.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this at the inauguration ceremony of the Board which took place at the Council Chamber of the Government House.

The Governor noted that the delay in constituting the Board was informed by the need for due diligence and what he described as a reconnaissance strategy to get the best hands that can win for the company and the state in general.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said his decision to form such a team of impeccable personalities was hinged on the need to retrace the steps of the company by looking at where it was, what it is and the projections to catch up with current realities.

“All of you are men that are tested and trusted who have served in a lot of places and have what it takes to take Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company to the position it should be and I know you can do it”.

He said the appointment of members was devoid of political consideration because of his firm believe that anyone who can contribute to the growth and development of the state will always be welcomed by his administration irrespective of his political affiliation.

“Within them I know that no less than a trillion of the Nigerian naira is being managed and you all know what that means to the Nigerian economy, so I enjoin you to bring it home and give back what you have taken from the society so that our people can feel the impcat of governance”.

The Governor explained that his administration has performed reasonably well in terms of preparing the grounds for the smooth take off of any investment, adding that Gombe State Government under his leadership has set up the State Revenue Optimisation Company and boosted the state capacity to generate revenues, making it now second in revenue generation within the North East.

He noted that reforms towards the self sufficiency of the state can be difficult but that his administration remains resolute towards enhancing and building the economic capacity of the state so that it does not have to depend on Abuja for statutory allocation.

“My dream is that Gombe State may soon not rely on the federation account for its survival because that was the dream of our elder statemen and we must keep such dream alive”.

He lamented that about 85 percent of the State allocation from the Federation account goes to payment of salaries, leaving a paltry 15 percent to carter for a population of about 3.5 million people. He added that the financial weight for the lesser few is outrageous to those in greater number.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya said his administration has equally done credibly well in encouraging small and medium scale enterprises through the recapitalization of the state’s micro finance bank, the provision of soft loans to small business owners as well as the construction of road networks at the Gombe Industrial cluster in BCGA among others.

He said with the economic driven efforts so far put in place by his administration and the coming on board of the members of the state Investment and Property Development Company the sky can only be the starting point for the state’s quest for economic freedom.

The Board chairman of the Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company, Dr. Umaru Mohammed Kwairanga thanked Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for giving them the opportunity to play their part towards the social and economic growth of the State.

He said the anticipated turn around of the Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company is coming at a time of a general realization that the days of states depending on federal allocation for their developmental purpose is coming to an end.

Dr. Kwairanga noted that with the economic impact of the covid-19 Pandemic and the ever increasing population of the state, depending on Abuja for allocation may no longer be sustainable.

He said the Board will engage with multinational corporations within and outside the country so that they take advantage of the human and natural resources of the state, especially now that Gombe is one of the most peaceful states in the country and the number one in ease of doing business.

“Our major task as a body therefore is to reinvigorate the company through necessary policies, actions and collaborations that will enable Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company position to change the development narrative of our state”.

“We intend to put the necessary strategies and frameworks in place to actualize such notable projects as the Gombe State Industrial Park and special development zones in the three senatorial zones.

“We will pursue collaborations with private investors such as Nestle, Cadbury and Flour Mills plc as well as government and multilateral institutions such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission, Islamic Development Bank, Dangote Group as well as the African Development Bank, the International Finance Corporation and UNIDO”.

It will be recalled Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had recently constituted the Board of Gombe State Investment and Property Development Company and appointed Alhaji Umaru Muhammad Kwairanga ( Sarkin Fulanin Gombe) as Chairman with Mu’awiyya Umar Faruq as Managing Director.

Members of the board are Alhaji Yidi Sambo Dukku, Mr. Benson Yahaya,Alh. Hamza Sulei Wuro Bokki, Alh. Sadiq Mohammed and Alh. Abdullahi Ali Gombe. Others are Alh. Adamu Sambo, Alh. Awwal Musa Bashir, Mal. Yila Sa’idu Mohammed and Mr. Anthony Yaro.
